For trades

A missed call is usually a lost job.

For a small service business the phone is the front door, and it rings at the worst possible times — which are exactly the times nobody can reach it.

The four calls you keep missing

None of them happen when you are sitting by the phone.

After hours, when it matters most

A burst pipe at nine in the evening does not wait until morning. The caller rings the next name on the list, and by the time you hear the voicemail the job is gone.

While you are already working

You are under a sink, up a ladder, or on the other line. The phone rings out, and nobody on site can stop what they are doing to answer it.

Voicemail asks too much

Plenty of people simply will not leave one. Those who do leave a name and half a number, and now the job depends on a game of telephone tag.

The callback costs you twice

Ringing back means finding out what they wanted from scratch — after an evening when you should have been finished, and often after they have booked somebody else.

Whether it fits

Five things that make it worth it.

If most of these describe your week, the product was designed for the situation you are in. If none of them do, it probably is not for you, and we would rather say so.

  • You are the dispatcher and the technician. There is no front desk to route a call to, so the phone competes with the work. Callahand takes the calls that do not need you and hands over the ones that do.
  • Your jobs have a shape. A service call, a quote, a seasonal maintenance visit — each with a usual length and a usual set of questions. That is exactly what a receptionist can be configured for.
  • Some calls are genuinely urgent. Gas, smoke, carbon monoxide, flooding, no heat in February. You define what counts for your trade, and that handling overrides everything else on the call.
  • Your service area has edges. Booking somebody ninety minutes outside your area is worse than turning them down politely. Callahand checks the address before it offers a time.
  • You want to know what happened, not listen back. A written summary after every call beats a voicemail you have to play twice with a pen in your hand.

Trades

Shaped around work like this.

Not an enterprise contact-centre product with the features removed. The vocabulary, the emergency rules and the appointment shapes all assume a business that sends somebody to an address.
